Gratuitous Carano post

Gina Carano continues to grab headlines despite not having fought since last October. MMA’s hottest free agent has made Maxim magazine’s Hot 100 list, coming in at number 16, alongside Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry and Sports Illustrated swimsuit magazine covergirl Marisa Miller. Whether or not she’s good or bad for women’s MMA – many of her fellow female fighters believe Carano’s pin-up appeal makes it hard for them to be taken seriously as fighters, and I have to admit they have a point – there’s no doubt that she brings mainstream attention to the sport. Although I do wonder whether the MMA fighter/American Gladiator with ring-girl sex appeal wants to be taken seriously as a fighter, or whether she sees MMA as just a stepping stone to a Hollywood career…
In more serious MMA news, Carano has been talking with the WEC as well as Strikeforce and the word is we’ll see her square off with Cris “Cyborg” Santos down the road.
And if you think women can’t fight, check out this three-round war between Sarah Kaufman and Miesha Tate from Strikeforce Challengers two weeks ago. Kaufman, a native of Victoria, BC, scored the decision victory and improved her record to a perfect 9-0.
