Another fight up in smoke?

Nick Diaz no-showed for his mandatory drug test on Friday, according to Figure Four Weekly. Diaz is supposed to fight Jay Hieron on the August 15 Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg card but that is now in jeopardy as a result.

Diaz’s trainer, Cesar Gracie, said on Wednesday that Diaz would appear for the test but neither showed up and representatives for Diaz said he was “busy training.” Strikeforce has since promised that Diaz would show up for the test on Monday although the California State Athletic Commission says there’s a goo chance the results may not be back in time for the fighter to be licensed.

Diaz’s difficulty drug tests is chronic. He tested positive for marijuana following his 2007 win over Takanori Gomi at Pride 33. Dubbed MMA’s pro-weed warrior, He’s also been quoted as saying that weed doesn’t get in the way of his fighting, fighting gets in the way of his weed.

Here’s what he told the L.A. Times in April of this year:

“I’m more consistent about everything being a cannabis user. I’m happy to get loaded, hear some good music… I remain consistent. And I have an easy way to deal with [the drug tests]. I can pass a drug test in eight days with herbal cleansers. I drink 10 pounds of water and sweat out 10 pounds of water every day. I’ll be fine.”

If the fight doesn’t go down, the one you have to feel bad for is Hieron, who was supposed to fight Paul Daley on the cancelled Affliction: Trilogy card before being added to the Strikeforce fold. Then again, maybe Hieron should just chill.
