Strikeforce’s Terminator salvation

Luckily they have their names tattooed on themselves wo we can tell them apart.

Luckily they have their names tattooed on themselves so we can tell them apart.

Whether it’s a Terminator movie or a Strikeforce event, you can never have enough Cyborg action. On Saturday, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos faces Gina Carano in the Strikeforce main event, while her husband, Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos, will square off against Tim Kennedy in a September 25 middleweight headliner.

Giving Mr. Cyborg a main event following his underwhelming split-decision loss to Joey Villasenor in June is strange. No doubt the Chute Boxe product is a fearsome fighter with big hands and bad tattoos (he’s got some of the ugliest ink-work in all of MMA, as though he’s been dipped in hot oil). But it’s hard not to think of this as Strikeforce’s way of maintaining harmony in the Cyborg household given Mrs. Cyborg is about to ugly up Carano to become the first 145-pound women’s champion.

It’s also a way of promoting Kennedy (10-2), the Special Forces sniper who is being groomed for flag-waving greatness. Kennedy is coming off a convincing second-round ground-and-pound win over Nick Thompson in June.
