Brave or crazy?

mir-kongo

Brock Lesnar must have hit Frank Mir harder than I thought. The heavyweight is rumoured to face Cheick Kongo at UFC 107 and he apparently believes he can stand and strike with the French Muay Thai kickboxer: “As long as we’re boxing with each other, I feel very comfortable against Cheick Kongo,” he’s quoted as saying on MMA Mania. “Obviously I don’t want to eat one of his knees, so I probably will try to strike with him a lot because if I just try to dive at him there’s always a chance of taking one of those.”

Either Mir, a jiu-jitsu ace, is setting up Kongo to believe he’s in for a standup battle or Mir is delusional. Granted, Mir has always been pretty cocky. But If he wants to beat Kongo he’s got to take a page from Cain Velasquez’s playbook, weather the strikes and get the fight to the ground, where Kongo is a fish out of water.
