Frank Trigg given stay of execution

KoscheckTriggUFC103_3575

It looked like Frank Trigg was one and done after his return to the UFC resulted in an 85-second beating at the hands of Josh Koscheck at UFC 103 on Saturday. But the popular welterweight is being given one more fight, according to Five Ounces of Pain.

“[The UFC] basically said, ‘If you lose, we have to keep you for one more fight since Josh is a top-five guy and it’s such a tough fight,” he said.

It’s a good call to keep Trigg around. He is popular (people love a comeback and an underdog and an oldtimer proving he still has the stuff) and he was in against a tough Josh Koscheck. And when you watch the fight, he got clipped behind the ear, which can scramble anybody’s brain for a few seconds. It wasn’t a lucky punch, he just got caught.

Trigg has stated numerous times that once he’s done in the UFC – or the UFC is done with him – he will retire. And I wouldn’t mind seeing him face someone like Matt Serra, who is in a similar position of being more of a gatekeeper than a real contender.
