Fitch ditched from UFC 106

Quick note: Jon Fitch posted on his Facebook page that his UFC 106 welterweight bought with jiu-jitsu star Ricardo Almeida has been scratched because Almeida “blew out his knee” in training. Fitch added that he’ll get a “bigger fight instead” – one “lots of you have been waiting for” – on a later card.

While the UFC had yet to make the cancellation official, there are a number of preliminary card bouts that could be moved to the main show: welterweights Marcus Davis vs. Ben Saunders (yawn) and Phil Baroni vs. Amir Sadollah (hmm…) and middleweights Kendall Grove vs. Jake Rosholt (meh).

Fitch has only one loss on his record since 2002 and that was to champ Georges St-Pierre at UFC 87 and has positioned himself for another possible title shot following wins over Akihiro Gono and Paulo Thiago.I’m sure the UFC will want to get him back in the mix as soon as possible given the dearth of contenders in the division.
