Lesnar’s kissing disease squashes UFC 108 title fight

nogueira-velasquez

Grab your scorecards, folks, there are more lineup changes afoot for January 2’s UFC 108, which is now without a championship fight.

Brock Lesnar’s ongoing illness isn’t H1N1 but mononucleosis, so his heavyweight title defense against Shane Carwin is postponed indefinitely. Carwin broke the news on his blog and it’s since been confirmed by the UFC. Lesnar vs. Carwin was originally slated for UFC 106 and then moved to UFC 108 when Lesnar first became ill and the Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort middleweight title bout fell out because of Silva’s elbow surgery.

To try and stop the bleeding, the UFC is hoping to lock down a heavyweight bout between Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira and Cain Velasquez, although nothing’s confirmed according to Sherdog.

Here’s how the rest of the UFC 108 card stacks up:

* Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva
* Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Junior dos Santos
* Carlos Condit vs. Paul Daley
* Jim Miller vs. Tyson Griffin
* Martin Kampmann vs. Rory Markham
* Joe Lauzon vs. Sam Stout
* Mark Munoz vs. Ryan Jensen
* Cole Miller vs. Dan Lauzon
* Jake Ellenberger vs. Mike Pyle
