Last night’s Bellator bored me. Sorry
Thursday’s Bellator 15 card was, um, mezzo mezzo. A day later and nothing sticks.
I recall Steve Carl and Geico caveman Brett Cooper slugging it out for three rounds, with Carl walking away with a split decision. But mostly I remember Carl’s got his last name tattooed across his back like it’s a vanity plate. Maybe it’s got something to do with him being in the Army and always having his name on him somewhere. Whatever, it’s dumb.
As for the rest of the card, only bits and pieces come to mind. Dan Hornbuckle upped his record to an impressive 20-2 with a first-round triangle choke of Tyler Stinson. Impressive. Ryan Thomas, who lost to Ben Askren last week due to a controversial referee stoppage, was given a second chance as a replacement for Jim Wallhead and he made the most of it as he TKO’ed Jacob McClintock. The win sets up a rematch with Askren in the Bellator welterweight tournament semi-finals next month. And BJJ black belt Patricio Pitbull subbed Canadian ex-soldier William Romero in a lightweight quarter-final tilt. (Although I had to look that one up because I’d completely forgotten it happened, if that’s any indication of how into the fights I was.)
