So what’s the “major announcement” Dana White is flying to Toronto to make?

So what’s the “major announcement” that UFC president Dana White and Zuffa boss Lorenzo Fertitta are flying to Toronto to make on Tuesday? The speculation has been running like Kalib Starnes, but that’s all it is, speculation.

My two cents? Sorry folks, they’re not announcing the sanctioning of MMA in Ontario, which is the first thing that popped into everybody’s head. There is a long shot that the UFC could be announcing that they have permission for a one-off test event in Toronto. At least that’s the word I’ve been hearing from sources close to the UFC. But again, big grain of salt.

Are they announcing that they will shoot the next season of The Ultimate Fighter in Toronto? If so, why would they do it without coach Georges St. Pierre? Doesn’t make sense. Neither does shooting the show here as opposed to Las Vegas, which is the UFC’s backyard and home base.

Speaking of home base, Joe Ferraro has floated the theory that the UFC is going to announce the opening of a Canadian office, which be located in Toronto. Makes perfect sense. It would give the promotion a beach head as it pushes to get the sport sanctioned here while also making it easier to co-ordinate UFC and WEC shows across the country.

Or maybe it’s something else entirely that we haven’t even thought of.

Okay it was supposed to be a surprise but I’ll let the cat out of the bag, they’re going to officially replace Mike Goldberg with moi.
