McLovin takes those warrior spirit Facebook platitudes to heart

I’m not sure if this is crazy, stupid or both. I’m sure Dustin Hazelett and many others will see this as an example of his “warrior spirit,” evidence of all the other bullshit platitudes that fighters, weekend warriors and cage potatoes spout all the time, often in their Facebook statuses, about never giving up and the early bird kills the worm and such. Things Vikings supposedly said.

But deciding to fight when a doctor says it’s not a good idea, well, it’s probably not a good idea. It’s not just a health thing, it’s a “live to fight another day” thing, a “need to get outta bed the next day and put food on the table” thing. Sure, the Nevada State Athletic Commission cleared Hazelett to fight at UFC 117 after a six-month layoff due to a busted orbital bone suffered against Paul Daley. But the UFC’s own doctor said “no way,” or something to that effect. That doctor might be “kind of conservative about fighting,” as Hazelett described him, although I have a hard time believing that given this is the medical expert the UFC sends its fighters to.

A busted orbital bone is no joke. Maybe nothing will happen to Hazelett. Probably he’ll be fine. But what if he’s not? Won’t affect me in the slightest. There’s plenty more meat for the grinder out there. But Hazelett, he might think differently. We’ll see. But will he.
